We offer ski lessons from complete beginner to instructor training 

Get ready for a ski holiday, improve your skiing or just have fun on our ski slope in Birmingham.  

Beginners Lessons

We take everyone ages 4+, if you have never skied before or want to improve we have the course for you.  

Penguin lessons - Ages 4-7

Running every other Sunday this session is the perfect way for children aged 4-7 to learn to ski within a fun 45 minute session.

This session is suitable for complete beginners and will go through everything from side stepping, turning to face down the slope, straight running and an introduction to snowploughing.

Participants will need to wear a long sleeved top, long trousers and gloves.

Helmets, skis & boots are provided.

Parents / guardians will need to stay on-site for the duration of the session.

Please do not book for your next session until instructor has signed off your child's achievement card.

Go Ski - Levels 1-5

This is the first of 5 levels that will give you an introduction to skiing.

These lessons are suitable for anyone aged 8+. There are 5 levels that aim to teach the basics of skiing to get you up to the recreational level, which then allows use of the main ski slope without supervision. Lessons are 1 hour in duration and there may be up to 10 participants in the group. After each lesson, the instructor will sign an achievement card to show your progress and will then advise which lesson is needed next, you can then book your next lesson.

Lessons need to be repeated if the standard has not been reached. If no listed dates or times suit you please contact our customer services team via [email protected] and we can check our availability on other dates.

Notes:

  • Each session will be led by a qualified, experienced instructor.
  • We provide Skis and Boots.
  • You must wear long trousers and long sleeves and Gloves and dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Long Ski socks can be purchased during ordering or at the centre.
  • Each group will contain a maximum of 10 people. (Please be aware that if a session has less than 4 people booked on to it then the session may need to be rescheduled).

Go Ski Level 1 (Taster)

This lesson is designed for complete beginners! In this lesson you will go through:

  • Introduction, safety & equipment
  • Walking up the slope using edges
  • Turning to face down the slope
  • Straight running & exercises

Go Ski Level 2

The session is suitable for those who have completed our Taster/Level 1. In this lesson you will go through:

  • Revise Level 1
  • Introduction to snowplough
  • Snowplough glide
  • Vary size of snowplough

    Go Ski Level 3

    The session is suitable for those who have completed and been signed off for our Level 2 lesson or those who can do a basic snowplough.

    In this lesson you will go through:

    • Revise level 2
    • Knowledge of snowplough turns
    • Sowplough turns to the left
    • Snowplough turns to the right

      Go Ski Level 4

      The session is suitable for those who have completed and been signed off for our Level 3 lesson or those who can snowplough turn to the left and to the right.

      In this lesson you will go through:

      • Revise Level 3
      • Linking snowplough turns together
      • Controlling your speed & direction
      • Introduction to the ski lift

        Go Ski Level 5

        The session is suitable for those who have completed and been signed off for our Level 4 lesson or those who can link snowplough turns and have begun to use the lift.

        In this lesson you will go through:

        • Revise Level 4
        • Refine linked plough turns
        • Efficient leg turning
        • Skiing from top of main slope

          Condensed Ski Course 

          Ackers Adventure offers a ‘Learn to Ski in a Day’ Course for anybody wishing to learn how to ski quickly or without taking up too much of their time.

          The Condensed Ski Course consists of approx 5 hours instruction with a brief at the start of the day and 1 hour worth of breaks throughout the day. These courses aim to take all participants from a complete beginner level up to the basic recreational standard (controlled snowplough turns and use of the lift) within one day.

          The course is aimed at taking all participants from a complete beginner level up to our basic recreational standard (controlled snowplough turns and use of the lift) within one day. Please note that we cannot guarantee that each participant will achieve this standard as it is purely dependent on the individuals ability to pick up and action the skills taught to them.

          These are physically demanding days and we advise having a high level of fitness, because of this we recommend this course is suitable for ages 12 and above.

          Courses run during the Winter season from 10:30am – 4:30pm.

          Please note that we cannot guarantee that each participant will achieve this standard as it is purely dependant on the individual’s ability to pick up and action the skills taught to them. Please note that these are physically demanding days so we advise having a high level of fitness.


          Advanced Ski Lessons

          Once you have completed level 5 go ski lessons and can use the Ski Slope without supervision we offer more advanced ski lessons to improve your skiing. 

          Wednesday Morning Club

          Our Wednesday Morning session runs from 10:00am - 12:30pm. Its a fantastic value informal coaching session which offers 2 hours of coaching. It's a great confidence boosting session with like-minded skiers! Includes a hot drink.

          This session is for those skiers that can already ski from the top of the main hill, use the lift competently and able to show good quality linked plough turns. Perfect if you have been signed off on our Level 5 lesson.

          A 3 hour coaching session for skiers that can perform plough parallel turns with minimal plough. It aims to give knowledge, guidance and practical experience in moving towards a basic and then more refined parallel turn. There will be different exercises to work on and personal feedback so skiers can then continue to work to improve afterwards.

          At the start skiers will start with a few runs warming up and then work on some foundation exercises. There will be some tasks set before a quick drinks break. Afterwards the instructor will work on each skiers personal performance and give personal feedback.

          Level 6 Go Ski 

          This session is suitable for those who have completed and been signed off for our Level 5 lesson or for skiers that can already ski to our recreational standard from the top of the main hill, using the lift competently and who are able to show good quality linked plough turns.

          In this lesson you will work towards:

          • Narrowing the plough
          • Matching the skis towards parallel
          • Basic parallel turns

          This lesson can be attended numerous times for continuous improvement and once you've mastered the basics of parallel turns you can join our Level 7 session!

          Level 7 - Instructor Training 

          This session is suitable for those who can competently perform a minimum of basic parallel turns.

          In these sessions you will improve your own personal level of skiing and break it down into its basic form by working towards:

          • Smooth rotation of turning leg
          • Efficient rotation of non-turning ski
          • Upper / lower body separation
          • Encourage lateral movement of skis
          • Pole plants

          These lesson is suitable for anyone aged 16+. Skis and boots are provided but you must ensure you have long sleeves, long trousers and gloves. Lessons are 2 hour in duration. Unfortunately, if you are not at the required skill level for the session, you may not be able to participate. Please check with us if you are unsure. If you are interested the coach will also guide you through all the required stages to be ready for a course to become a nationally recognized Snowsport England Instructor.

          Sessions run term time all year round - the slope is floodlit during the winter months and has stunning sunset views during the summer months! This lesson can be attended numerous times for continuous improvement.
